1. Integration context of the civil systems

In the Life-Cycle-Assessment of integrated civil engineered systems, deterioration and failure rates play a crucial part. Deterioration describes the process, a product loses functionality and in the end has to be maintained to keep this function. Those interventions of course have to meet some cost benefit factor.

In order to understand the relationships between the different components over the lifecycle, in particular with a focus on the maintenance of each of its subsystems, we have developed a integrated lifecycle model containing the Lifecycle analysis of a set of sump pits, fiber optic, playground and concrete elements . This integrated system has been assessed regarding its reaction due to small changes within the maintenance strategy.

The final goal is to develop a holistic maintenance plan for all four mentioned systems.
All four systems are part of development area. The columns or concrete slab, sump pits and play ground are physically attached in the integration and the playground is directly attached to  the fiber optic.

The components enable the area to be used. People might have to spend more time inside the building and a children’s playground will be constantly utilized. A higher capacity of the facilities will be resulting in risk of accidents within the structure that might require repair or increase the maintenance rate.
Our systems include concrete elements of a building, and since both the structure of precast and the slab can be seen as a subsystems of the structure these are closely related to each other.
