Introduction

Failure rates and deterioation of a system play an important role in the life-cycle analysis of civil engineered systems and was one of the key components of this class. To be able to minimize the life-cycle costs one has to understand how the costs are influenced by how and when a maintenance is being done.

The complexity of this process also is being increased by adding more compontens and because of the interactions between two or more components or subsystem. Another aspect which has to kept in mind is that each component has a different deterioration speed and different failure rates.  Together all aspects lead to a multidimensional problem which has to be balanced carefully.

Within this group project we had to integrate our five individual systems into one, resulting in a complex system, which inherents als named aspects.
