Maintenance Schedules Identified

The difference Interruptions identified within the subsystems were:

  • Pipe: Leak Detection (5), Leak Repair (10), Pipe Replacement (20) [Total Span: 35]
  • Temple: General Maintenance (5), Glass Replacement (25), Concrete Replacement (60) [Total Span: 200]
  • Railing System: Maintenance (2), Rails Replacement (8), Post Replacement (10) [Total Span: 60]
  • Kindergarten: Maintenance (5-6), Frame Overlay (15-20), Frame Replacement (30-35) [Total Span: 60]
  • High-Rise Building: Maintenance (5), Grouting (17), Reinforcement & Strengthening (40)  [Total Span: 150]

Combined Lifespan

The Lifespan for the Foundation and Temple Structure is obviously way longer than the other components (based on their requirements for safety and longevity). The determining factor for a systems strength is usually the weakest link. Thus, the decision was between choosing 35 years for the Pipe and 60 Years for the Railing System/Kindergarten.
It is way more realistic to replace the entire Pipe system (although that scenario would be unlikely, realistically with good maintenance that won’t be necessary), than to consider the lifespan of the entire system to be over, just because of the Pipe. Especially since the Pipe is under the Railing System.

Combination of the Maintenance Lifetimes

The Maintenance of all Systems can be combined (including the Leak Detection of the Pipe). The problem that comes to mind is the Maintenance span of the Railing System.
Option #1: Considering the fact that we will have a large-scale Maintenance which covers all sub-systems the volume of the Maintenance will be enough to assure 5-year gaps.
Option #2: Since we do a general maintenance it is unrealistic and inefficient to do everything at once every 5 years. Thus, we should reduce the frequency to 2-3 years to allow flexibility and reduce the volume in singular maintenance procedures for the Exterior parts (Pipe and Rails). 5 Years is realistic for the subsystem of the Main-Structure.

Strategy #1

2 years (Exterior): Maintenance [E1]
5 years (Main-Structure): Maintenance [M1]
These Maintenance will also have a span of 1 day and can thus be grouped.
Furthermore the following interruptions fall into almost the same timeframe:

10 years (Exterior): Rails & Post Replacement & Leak Repair [E2]
This is something that is also not supposed to take more than 2 days.
20 years (Main-Structure): Glass Replacement, Frame Overlay, Grouting [M2]

The Glass Replacement will realistically only take one day, but the other two processes will take approx 2-3 days. The discrepancy is not big enough to warrant the splitting of these three and the value of 2 days will be assumed.

20 years (Exterior): Pipe Replacement [E3]
This one can take quite some time. The assumed value of the duration is 30 days.

40 years (Main-Structure): Reinforcement & Strengthening  [M3]
The assumption is 10 days.

The Concrete Replacement won’t be necessary since it is not realistically necessary before the end of our Lifespan.

 Strategy #2

The groups will not be changed significantly, but the way Maintenance and Interruptions interact will be changed. Things such as “Replacement & Repair” will be taken out of the other Interruptions. These issues will be resolved once they are identified within the regular maintenance. To acknowledge that fact the length of the interruptions will have to be adjusted.

2 years (Exterior): Maintenance [E1]
5 years (Main-Structure): Maintenance [M1]
Span: 2 days for the Main Structure and 3 days for the Exterior
(10 years (Exterior): Rails & Post Replacement & Leak Repair [E2])
This one will not be necessary anymore.

20 years (Main-Structure): Frame Overlay[M2]
The Grouting and the Glass Replacements will be done within the regular Maintenance. The length will now be 1 day.

20 years (Exterior): Pipe Replacement [E3]
This one will still be necessary, but the length of it can be shortened because of the high-intensity maintenance.  15 days.

40 years (Main-Structure): Reinforcement & Strengthening  [M3]
This one stays the same. The assumption is 10 days.

The Concrete Replacement won’t be necessary since it is not realistically necessary before the end of our Lifespan.
