Application of the NSGA-II

To begin with, the fitness function to be minimized is defined. Different maintenance strategies are assessed by considering the specific ranges for the interventions and their duration from the maintenance planning. Additionally, the length and the width of the examined pedestrian walkway are included in the function as variables based on the value generated by the genetic algorithm. The length varies between 20m and 25m and the width between 10m and 20m.

The output of the function includes the duration of the interventions, the minimum distance between two consecutive interventions, energy, CO2, SO2, and cost.

Running the NSGA-II for 10 generations with a population size of 100 has proven to be suitable.
