Steel Bridge

Introduction

A steel bridge was selected as the domain for analysis in this second personal LCA assignment. The entire life of the steel bridge was assumed to be 100 years. The focus of this assignment was on the substructure of the steel bridge, specifically the decking system. Different design options for the decking system were be analyzed using techniques such as life cycle inventory, life cycle cost analysis, and multi-criteria decision-making methods (MCDM) to compare and evaluate the options.

LCA & Multi-Criteria Optimization

Within the life-cycle analysis (LCA) the systems boundaries had to be defined as presented in figure 2.2.1.

Also design alternatives to compare had to be defined as shown in figure 2.2.2.

After research costs and consumptions of interventions could be defined as shown in figure 2.2.3.

The corresponding radar plots of the performance indicators are presented in figure 2.2.4.

The end of the second personal project assignment was a  multi-criteria decision-making, its results are presented in figure 2.2.5 in form of two pie charts.
