System: Fossil Fuel Pipeline Safety Management

In an oil-rich location in the Middle East, there is an underground network of pipelines that efficiently transmit extracted hydrocarbon fluids from wells to manifolds. To ensure the safety of the future fossil fuel and surrounding environment, a robust system of protective measures has been implemented along the pipeline route.

Firstly, there is a pool in each well location called a mud-pit. This pool is used as a reservoir to decontaminate the mud and elements during the drilling process. Along the pipeline route, an access road must run alongside for future maintenance. These roads usually pass through mountainous areas where slope stability analysis is necessary. Retaining walls may be necessary to protect the road from potential harm caused by landslides or rock falls. These retaining walls are specifically designed with a cut-off wall (curtain) to shield against external forces, such as soil movements and subsidence, creating a secure space exclusively for the pipelines. Additionally, the retaining walls are equipped with monitoring devices, such as sensors or gauges, to continuously measure various parameters and detect any potential issues that may pose a risk to the pipelines.

Based on the length of the pipeline route, there are multiple pump and valve stations structured with reinforced concrete and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The pumping station efficiently regulates the flow of resources, while the valve station controls the flow and pressure of oil or gas within the underground pipe network.
