Residential Buildings

Parametric Modeling

Residential Buildings with beams and columns made of Reinforced Concrete are the domain on which we are concentrating our efforts to create a parametric model. The main idea that serves as the foundation for creating a parametric model for a residential building is to aid in structural analysis.

Purpose of the parameters:

The following parameters were selected as the ones to control the parametric model:

Height of the Residential Building(H) – The height of the building is given importance as it defines the total structure and its column height and divides the structure into different levels. Each level height of the Residential Building (h) – Dividing into levels is an important factor when it comes to a structure with more than one storey. Here, I have chosen a constant value for each level as almost all residential buildings are having the same height for easy understanding. Width (W) and Length (L) of the Residential Building – These parameters are used to define the building’s base geometry. These can be adjusted according to the conditions and specifications of the design and site. Also, these can affect the overall construction material quantity and cost.

High-Performance Criteria:

In order to evaluate the performance of the System in a detailed manner High-Performance Criteria are Evaluated :

  • Cost Estimation

As a high-performance criterion, we have chosen Cost estimation as the first choice for the Residential Building made of Reinforced Concrete. For eg: when the total volume of my Residential Building is 48.6 m^3, the estimated cost I am getting is 12150. The cost of structure varies based on the measurements and material usage during construction. So cost can be changed based on our need and plan.

  • Length Width Ratio

As the second choice we have chosen the Length-Width Ratio of Residential Building. On a general basis Residential Buildings are having a length – width ratio is 1.2: 1 to 1.5: 1.

Length and width of Residential building can be varied by maintaining a uniform ratio between them. As, length and width is one of the important factor which can affect the entire structure.
