Introduction

A nightclub is a venue where dance events take place regularly but most at the weekends. The dance music is not performed by bands but by DJs. People meet there for dancing and socializing.1 Nightclubs vary in their external and internal appearance a lot. Depending on how many people should be able to come together, the size is decisive. Depending on the target audience the inside design has to be adapted. A special type of premises at nightclubs are the so-called “‘found’ spaces, that served another purpose in a previous life.”2 Clubs are usually closed spaces, which may for example be basements, lofts, converted dwellings, warehouses, factory buildings or especially constructed functional buildings.1

The following figure shows a nightclub mainly defined by its functional areas and its technical features. Another important part of a nightclub are the safety regulations with special attention to fire safety and security personnel.

Design challenge

The nightclub model created with blender is shown in the model preview below. The large cuboid represents the actual nightclub building. The small one represents the toilet area. The size of the floor area influences the number of visitors and/or vice versa.

Before modeling was started, the following assumptions have been made to keep a low level of detail:

  • The nightclub has a rectangular floor plan
  • The nightclub is a ground floor building
  • The floor area is not divided into different areas
  • Number of visitors: max. 1000

The original model had as input parameters the length, width and height of the nightclub. As a result, the permissible number of visitors was shown. Depending on the number of visitors, the size of the toilet area was sized. To make the nightclub part of a university campus, the dimensions of the nightclub were tied to the number of students, so that the new and only input parameter is the number of students.
